Becky Butter Ointment

Becky Butter was originally designed as a burn salve.  It was created by Becky Whitworth the daughter of the Ivan Family.  Becky was part of a fire dancing troop called the Burn Circus in Mid-Missouri.  This adventurous group of entertainers would dance with fire on sticks, hula-hoops, and other projectiles.  The performances while incredible, usually ended with a burn or two among the group.  Becky, as a talented herbalist knew about herbs and which ones could help heal. With the help of some of her troop mates, she created the original recipe for Becky Butter.

Becky Butter was sold at the local Columbia Farmers Market and to friends among the troop.  However, over the years the practice of making Becky Butter became something only occasionally made for family and friends and it was not available to the public for about 10 years. Becky passed on the recipe and the practice of making Becky Butter to me several years ago. I started making Becky Butter for myself and found out quickly there was a demand for it among people that had used it many years before.

Becky butter is made from dried herbs and flowers, fine oils, and local bees’ wax.  Each ingredient adds something important to the mix from anti-inflammatory to cell regenerators.  The only preservative used in Becky Butter is high-quality vitamin E oil.  There are no scents added to the mix, the only smell detectable from Becky Butter comes from the flowers that are distilled in the oils.  Many of the flowers and herbs are grown in our own suburban garden making this product low in miles to market. 

As people tried Becky Butter it became apparent that the herbs in Becky Butter had therapeutic properties.  The herbs were known to help with inflammation, cell regeneration, itching, pain relief, and other healing practices.

Adding CBD

As the healing properties of CBD have become more widespread and with the advent of the farm bill opening the market for legal use of CBD’s we decided to make a CBD version of Becky Butter.  Adding the healing properties of CBD to Becky Butter has made some truly incredible variations.
